John Hoar was born in 1947, the son of Frank Hoar the cartoonist - "Acanathus" of Punch magazine and a highly accomplished watercolourist. Although John studies with Ruskin Spear R.A., he is largely self taught.
His inspirations have been the great impressionist watercolourists both English and American who perfected the art of painting in the most direct and economical way. He has painted professionally since 1980 and is represented in collections in England, Ireland and the USA.
He regularly gives demonstrations to art societies and teaches at his Devon home in the autumn and winter.
